Length:                 Walton Woods Path; 2 mile Outer Loop.

Difficulty:             Easy. Flat paved trail.

Directions:

Starting from Amherst Courthouse [Western End]; From I-990 take exit 3 to John James Audubon Pkwy. After 0.6 miles turn left into the Town of Amherst parking lot. Take your first left, then right towards the Courthouse. The paved trail begins just right of the Courthouse.

The Walton Woods Path is a series of trails winding around Walton Woods Park. There are many Loops and intersecting paths you can take. I describe the Outer most Loop around the park.

Starting from Amherst Courthouse [Western End]; Travel East, past the Courthouse along the paved Walton Woods Path before entering the woods. Quickly come to Lake Audubon and an intersection. I started out heading left, North, along the Western Side of the lake. Pass by a Spur Trail on your left out to Hummingbird Ln, then another out to Partridge Run at the Northern End of the lake. Travel Southeast, to an intersection at 0.4 miles.

Note; Right, South, takes you back along the Eastern Side of the lake along the short, Lake Audubon Loop, back to the Amherst Courthouse.

Head left, North, where you'll wind through thick woods, passing by an intersection on your right. After crossing a transmission line you'll pass by another intersection on your right before Looping around some apartment buildings. Continue straight, South, across the transmission lines again and come to another intersection at 0.9 miles. Continue straight, South, along the Eastern Side of Walton Pond and you'll come to the Walton Pond Center (swimming pool, tennis courts). Travel through the Center, past the tennis courts, then right, West, alongside a parking lot and back to the wide paved Walton Woods Path. Travel North, between the woods and fields, past a pavilion and the Southern End of Walton Pond to another intersection. Head left, West, back into the woods to another intersection at 1.3 miles. Head left, South, back along the Eastern Side of Lake Audubon, to another intersection.

Note; Straight, takes you along the short, Lake Audubon Loop, back to the Amherst Courthouse.

Head left, East, to yet another intersection.

Note; Left, East, a Spur Trail leads to Little Robin Rd.

Keep right, South, to another intersection.

Note; Left, South, a Spur Trail leads to Sylvan Pkwy.

Continue right, North, past another intersection at 1.8 miles and this brings you back along the Western Side of Lake Audubon and some benches. Just past the benches on your left is the spur to return you to the Amherst Courthouse parking lot after a 2 mile Loop.
