                              Haverstraw River Trail; 3.4 miles

Difficulty:            Rockland Lake SP Bike Path; Easy. Flat paved path.

                               Congers Lake Trailway; Easy. Flat paved trail with some boardwalk sections. 

                               Nyack River Trail; Easy. Mostly flat stone-dust trail. 

                               Haverstraw River Trail; Moderate. Hilly, narrow and quite rocky. It runs along the cliffs and should only be ridden by experienced bicyclists riding bikes in good condition.

Directions:     

From I-87/287 take exit 12 to Route 303 north. 

To Start from Congers Lake Memorial Park for the Congers Lake Trailway in Congers [Southeastern End]; As soon as you pass by the Congers town line you'll come to a blinking light. Turn left down Gilchrest Rd, then right into Congers Lake Memorial Park. The trail passes through the parking lot where you spot the crosswalks.

To start from Rockland Lake SP for the Rockland Lake SP Bike Path in Congers [Northwestern End]; Continue north on Route 303 to the next traffic light. Turn right on Lake Rd and follow to Route 9W. Cross over and enter the park heading right to Parking Field 6 (Fee).

To Start from the Nyack Beach State Park parking lot for the Nyack River Trail in Nyack [Southern End];; From I-287 take exit 11 to Route 9W and head left, North. Travel 1.4 miles and turn right on Old Mt Rd. Follow to N Broadway and turn left. Follow into Park. Fee to park.  

The Congers Lake Trailway encircles Congers Lake from Congers Lake Memorial Park. The park has a Community Center, swimming pool, sports courts, playground and picnic tables. The trail is continuous but broken into 5 Sections; North Trailway, Route 303 Trailway, Memorial Park Trailway, South Trailway and West Trailway. You can also access the Rockland Lake SP Bike Path, via an on-road connection, East, to Rockland Lake State Park. The Rockland Lake SP Bike Path encircles Rockland Lake. Rockland Lake State Park's lake is located on a ridge of Hook Mountain above the West Bank of the Hudson River. The park offers picnic tables, grills and hiking trails. You can also access the Nyack River Trail & Haverstraw River Trail, via an on-road connection East. The Nyack River Trail starts from Nyack Beach SP and travels North, alongside the Hudson River. It then connects to the Haverstraw River Trail and continues North, alongside the Hudson River, to the Hudson River Greenway trailhead parking lot. Where these 2 trails meet, a Spur Trail travels West, uphill to the Landing Road parking lot. From here, you can connect to the Rockland Lake SP Bike Path via an on-road connection. Congers Lake Trailway:

Starting from Congers Lake Memorial Park [Southeastern End]; A Map Board is located near the trailhead which is on the East Side of the parking lot (look for the yellow bike sign). Map Boards are located all along the trail. The wide paved Route 303 Trailway heads past the gate out of the Park, turning North, along the Eastern Side of the lake. This section is shaded with limited views of Congers Lake. After passing by the Route 303 parking lot you'll come to Lake Rd after 0.6 miles. Boardwalk to your left.

Note; To access the Rockland Lake State Park Bike Path turn right, East, along Lake St and cross over Route 303. Continue on-road (low volume traffic) up Lake St past Congers Bike Shop. This will take you out to Route 9W at 0.4 miles. Caution; No Cross-light, so cross with the green light and enter the Park. Take your first right and follow the park road, South, past the gatehouse. Turn left through Parking Field 6 to access the Rockland Lake State Park Bike Path after 0.8 miles.

Heading left, West, along the boardwalk on the North Trailway, you pass a promenade overlooking the Northern End of the lake. The now paved trail, follows this open section, bringing you to an intersection at 0.8 miles.

Note; A boardwalk/paved Spur Trail on your right takes you North, to the Pleasant Street parking lot after less than 0.2 miles.

The West Trailway follows mostly boardwalk along the Western Side of the Lake. To your right is the active CSX Railroad. More promenades. After 1.8 miles you come to the paved South Trailway, following the Southern End of the Lake. Cross Congers Dam and travel North, back along the Eastern Side of the lake and alongside Gilchrest Rd. Enter Memorial Park and the Memorial Park Trailway. Here you'll find picnic tables, playgrounds and sports fields. The trail Loops around the park returning you to the Congers Lake Memorial Park parking lot after a 2.5 mile Loop

Rockland Lake State Park Bike Path:

Starting from Rockland Lake SP Parking Field 6 [Northwestern End]; A restroom is located here. Travel South, along the wide paved Rockland Lake State Park Bike Path along the Western Side of Rockland Lake. Follow the tree lined trail as it passes picnic areas, open fields and Parking Field 5. After a mile you'll pass by Parking Field 4 and the South Recreation Area, located at the Southern End of the lake. A pool and bathhouse are located here. The trail leaves the crowds behind as it travels North, along the Eastern Side of Rockland Lake, passing by Parking Field 3. Hook Mt is along your right. Come to an intersection. Right leads to Parking Field 2 and a playground.

Note; If you wish to connect to the Nyack River Trail, head right, North, alongside the parking lot. Exit right out of the parking lot to Rockland Lake Rd and travel right, South, on-road (Narrow road w/no shoulder) to an intersection. Turn left, East, on Landing Rd (low traffic), which will bring you to the Landing Road parking lot at 0.6 miles. Continue past the gate along the road (closed to traffic) to a stone house with slate roof (private residence). Follow the trail down to an intersection at 0.8 miles

Continue left alongside the lake passing more fields and picnic areas. The trail leaves the shoreline at 2.4 miles heading North, past the North Recreation Area. Another pool and bathhouse located here. This brings you to Parking Field 1. Follow the double wide trail left, West, to an intersection.

Note; To access the Congers Lake Trailway turn right along the old trail and follow along the edge of the parking lot out past a gate to Rockland Park Rd. Head right on-road (one-way), then an immediate left out across a bridge to Rockland Park Rd and follow to Lake Rd. Turn right out to Route 9W. Caution; No Cross-light, so cross with the green light over to Lake St. Follow Lake St on-road (low volume Traffic) West, out to Route 303. Cross and continue along Lake St to the Congers Lake Trailway after 0.8 miles. You'll find a Map Board here.

Continue left, South, along the narrow paved trail which takes you past the Nature Center at 2.8 miles. You'll then return back to Parking Field 6 after a 3 mile Loop.

Nyack River Trail & Haverstraw River Trail:

Starting from Nyack Beach State Park parking lot for the Nyack River Trail [Southern End]; Restrooms located here. Nice views of the Tappan Zee Bridge. The wide, stone-dust Nyack River Trail travels North, alongside the Hudson River, below the steep ridge of Hook Mt SP. Picnic tables located along the trail. After 0.5 miles (painted on a rock) look up to spot the sheer cliffs. Come to a paved section of trail at 1.3 miles as you start a short assent. The trail levels off and you come to an Intersection at 1.6 miles.

Note; Left, West, brings you up to Landing Rd next to a stone house with slate roof (private residence). Here you can follow the road (traffic free) up to the Landing Road parking lot. If you continue on-road, out to Rockland Lake Rd and turn right, you'll pass by an entrance to Parking Field 2 on your left. Straight through the parking lot leads to the Rockland Lake SP Bike Path after 0.8 miles.

From the Intersection, right, the paved Haverstraw River Trail travels back down to the river and continues North. I haven't checked out this section. I believe the trail surface varies from paved, old road and hard packed gravel and travels 3.4 miles North, to the Hudson River Greenway trailhead parking lot.
