The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail follows the rail bed of the former West Shore RR from Mifflinburg West, to Lewisburg. For more information visit; BUFFALO VALLEY RAIL TRAIL & BUFFALO VALLEY RAIL TRAIL .
Starting from the N 10th Street parking lot in Mifflinburg [Eastern End]; Informational signs are posted along the trail. Mileage Markers are posted every 0.5 miles starting from Mifflinburg. I haven't checked out this section of the trail. The paved Buffalo Valley Rail Trail travels East, through Mifflinburg along an open residential/commercial corridor. You'll quickly travel past the Trail parking lot on your left before crossing N 8th St and passing by Mifflinburg Community Park along your left. Restrooms. You'll pass by the BROOKSIDE BIKES store at 1.3 miles. You leave the town behind as the trail turns to stone-dust at about 1.7 miles. Cross a bridge over a stream as you now travel past fields and farmland along a sometimes wide open corridor, other times shaded. The trail parallels Route 45 the whole distance but has a descent separation. The road crossings are mainly low traffic farm roads. Come to the Beaver Run Road parking lot in the Vicksburg Section of Mifflinburg at 4.3 miles. Porto-Potty. I've checked out this next section. You now enter the Lewisburg section. Cross Bull Run Crossing at 8 miles where the trail becomes paved as you travel through the Linntown Section of Lewisburg along a partly shaded residential/industrial corridor. Come to the Trail parking lot that starts from the end of N 14th St to N 12th St at 9 miles where you'll find a restroom and Map Board. The trail then continues out to N Derr Dr (Route 15) after 9.3 miles.
Note; The trail has been extended, however, I haven't checked it out. Head left, North, along the sidewalk to St Mary St, where you'll find a crosswalk over busy Route 15. Then travel right, South, to N 8th St and head left, East, on-road (residential) a short distance where you'll rejoin the paved Buffalo Valley Rail Trail after 9.5 miles. Here the trail continues East, through a residential corridor passing by Green Park & Piers Art Park, before passing a Spur Trail and crossing some RR tracks and coming to *N 5th Street after 9.7 miles. Map Board. The old rail bed is now St John St.
Note; This paved Spur Trail travels South, between the RR tracks & Piers Art Park, crossing Market St, where the trail continues past Hufnagle Park. Cross St Louis St, where a narrow cement trail continues into the park, ending after 0.3 miles. Bull Run flows alongside this park, which has a playground, Porto-Potty & pavilion.
Future plans will continue the trail East, from *N 5th Street, on-road along St John St to N Water St, across which is Soldiers Park. Here an old RR trestle crosses the Western Branch Susquehanna River to East Lewisburg. Plans include re-using this bridge. See; TRAIL EXTENSION .
